The District Rural Development Agency, South Andaman District is implementing the Poverty Alleviation Scheme of Govt. of India. Through the Rural Development Schemes, the rural poor are assisted to uplift their standard of living by providing financial assistance for generating employment, self-employment venture and providing shelter to the rural shelter less BPL families. In order to achieve the goal of all these schemes, vide publicity and proper monitoring are being carried out. The implementations of these schemes are made transparent to the general public for availing the real benefit of the schemes.

The Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad is the Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer is the Executive Director of the DRDA. The Additional District Magistrate of South Andaman District is the Project Director of the Agency.

At present , DRDA, South Andaman is implementing only one scheme i.e. Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY). Indira Awaas Yojana is a flagship scheme of the Ministry of Rural Development, Govt. of India. Under this Scheme assistance is provided to the BPL families who are either houseless or having inadequate housing facilities for constructing a safe and durable shelter. Assistance amounting of Rs.75,000/- is provided to eligible beneficiaries for the construction of houses.

Eligibility Criteria for availing benefits through IAY Scheme

  • Should be a BPL member as per the BPL list finalized by A&N Administration and published by DRDA, South Andaman. The list along with application forms and other details are also available in the offices of all Pradhans and Block Development Officers.
  • Should be having own land (house site) with clear title for the construction of house under IAY.
  • Should be recommended by the Gram Sabha of concerned area Gram Panchayat.
